Lazers Never Die EP
Mad Decent/Downtown/Interscope

Following Major Lazer’s debut full-length is the Lazers Never Die EP. Featuring only two new tracks, “Sound Of Siren” and “Good Enough,” these original productions indicate a move to a more dancehall direction for the duo of Diplo and Switch. The dirtier and more obnoxious of the two tracks, “Sound Of Siren” utilizes special guest M.I.A.‘s abilities to their fullest, making it infinitely danceable. In contrast, “Good Enough,” with Collie Buddz and Lindi Ortega, sounds like No Doubt should have when they spent so much time recording in Jamaica. The remaining three tracks rounding off the EP are remixes of tracks from Major Lazer’s album, Guns Don’t Kill People: Lazers Do. The Buraka Som Sistema remix of “Bruk Out” has been making the rounds on the dance circuit for a while, unapologetically shredding as it goes. Not far behind is K.L.A.M’s angry interpretation of “Can’t Stop Now,” featuring Miss Banks. The severe bass treatment on this number sets off Banks’ Uffie-esque delivery. Ghetto bass done right. I purchased this EP recently having obtained Guns Don’t Kill People Lazers Do last year. I was unpleasantly disappointed. There isn’t a whole lot to cheer for here. It falls far short of its predecessor in listenability and originality The rehashed are boring. C’mon ML, you can and must do better!
