Feb 27, 2020
Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.
This week, we had the pleasure of having tea with Sudan Archives at her home on a rainy day in Los Angeles. From fabulous feathered gowns to serious sonic experimentation, the violinist/vocalist/producer gave us a glimpse of her wonderful world. She opened up about how sometimes life was easier when she was making donuts, and how she can find inspiration anywhere she likes (most notably, she’s been taking style cues from her pet snake Goldie).
Sudan Archives’ new album Athena is out now on Stone’s Throw Records. She also just releasesd a new video for the dazzling single “Limitless.” For updates on both music and fashion, be sure to follow her on Instagram or swing by her official site.

Welcome to Why Not Both Wednesdays. Every week, in partnership with the Why Not Both podcast, we’ll be presenting new podcast episodes that explore how multiple passions inform the inspiring lives of musicians, writers, actors, and creatives.
Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast joined us this week to chat about how getting outside of her own head helped break the writer’s block she encountered before ultimately crafting her upcoming album. Ranging from political advocacy to getting sober to discovering the best menu hacks at the Cheesecake Factory, Bethany’s journey shows that sometimes the best way to get to your goal is to set your sights on the journey instead of the destination.
Best Coast’s new album Always Tomorrow is out February 21 on Concord. Catch the Vanderpump Rules-inspired video for single “Everything Has Changed,” and bliss out to the single “For the First Time” and check out upcoming tour dates here.

Glasgow, Scotland-formed indie guitar-pop four-piece Spinning Coin are releasing their sophomore album, Hyacinth, on February 21 via Geographic Music, an imprint of Domino spearheaded by the Scottish band The Pastels. Now they have shared another song from it, “Ghosting,” via a video for the track. Watch the Sean Nicholas Savage-directed video below.
The band’s Sean Armstrong, who wrote the song, had this to say about it: “It was written in the small hours of a morning in my cockroach-infested flat in Glasgow, on the day that I was to move out. I hadn’t packed any of my things but stayed up all night sitting on the floor screaming into a microphone, drinking instant coffee. In the late am when my friends came to help me move, I still hadn’t put anything into boxes or slept, and was faint and dehydrated; but had written the first version of this song.”
Spinning Coin formed in Scotland, but Armstrong and fellow member Rachel Taylor have since left Glasgow for Berlin. Hyacinth is the follow-up to 2017’s debut album, Permo.

Corridor Share New Song “Pow”

Montreal’s Corridor are releasing a new album, Junior, on October 18 via Sub Pop. It’s the band’s first album for iconic Seattle label and their third album over all. This week they shared another song from it, the appropriately named “Pow.” And while it doesn’t exactly bring to mind Adam West’s Batman punching Cesar Romero’s Joker, “Pow” does have a similar energy to it, cresting on a Krautrock meets dream pop groove.
