Greenday
International Superhits!
(Warner Records)

This is an example of a perfect greatest hits album. First of all, it’s one disc. This is the wrong band for a a 2CD set or a box set. Green Day are a singles band pure and simple. A lot like Blur in that their albums are pretty good and some are great but they really send their best material to radio.

Green Day are kind of fucked if you think about it, they are considered sell-outs to their original fans (for signing to Warner Reprise) and too popular for the cool kids. Sure they’re on a major label but for my money their music just keeps getting better. Like Weezer, they make sweet power pop for the masses. Why is the album perfect? It”s simple; great package and great tunes. The two new ones fit perfectly with the tracks from their four major albums. At a time when most popular rock bands don’t bother writing tunes and settle for a wall of noise with screaming, it’s refreshing to hear three guys excel at their craft. Their greatest hits have allowed them to finally make the perfect album.
