Issue #60 - Father John Misty
Tara Jane O’Neil
Gnomonsong
Apr 18, 2017 Tara Jane O’Neil
Tara Jane O’Neil’s new self-titled LP is a simple, stately singer/songwriter affair, and among her least experimental output to date. That might initially disappoint some, but the album’s straightforward pleasures bloom with attentive listening, ultimately offering something on par with the finer work of peers like Dear Nora and Mirah, or even something nearing the vaunted heights of holy grails like Vashti Bunyan’s Just Another Diamond Day. No mean feat, that, and quite a surprise joy from a lifer who could have just as easily rested on her laurels at this stage in her career. (www.tarajaneoneil.com)
