Sharon Jones, Modern Soul Legend and Leader of The Dap-Kings, Has Died

Modern soul legend Sharon Jones (of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings) has died at age 60. The singer had been battling pancreatic cancer. A statement was released this evening on the Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings Facebook page that in part read: “We are deeply saddened to announce Sharon Jones passed away today after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer.

The Decemberists are putting out a deluxe 10th anniversary reissue of 2006’s The Crane Wife on December 9 via Capitol/Ume. It includes five red vinyl LPs and features the original album, B-sides, bonus tracks, outtakes, and demos. Now the band has shared a previously unreleased demo of the near 13-minute long “The Crane Wife 1, 2 & 3.”

Legendary singer/songwriter/poet Leonard Cohen‘s death was announced last Thursday (November 10) even though he actually passed away last Monday (November 7). It had been suspected that Cohen had been sick, due to statements he had given in recent interviews about being “ready to die,” but no official cause of death was stated when his passing was announced.
