Yesterday, he announced his new album, Fear of Death, is coming out September 25 via Spacebomb Records. He also shared the title track with features from none other than Natalie Mering, aka Weyes Blood, via a video. More

Welcome to another Songs of the Week. It was slim pickings this week for truly inspiring new tracks, but there were enough to recommend to put together this week’s list. We also realized their were two songs we should’ve included on recent Songs of the Week lists but neglected to, so we’ve given them special mention here. More

This week’s Songs of the Week was almost just a Top 8. However two fun, but seriously inessential, songs from the Lego Movie 2 soundtrack skated in at the bottom of the list. Veteran Scottish rockers Idlewild surprised us with an interesting new song, even though we admittedly haven’t paid much attention to their last few albums. More

Another Dark Year Was Brightened By a Plethora of Fantastic Albums
Dec 30, 2017
By Mark Redfern
2016 was regarded as a fairly rough year by many, but 2017 was no walk in the park either. 2016 was mired by the deaths of several beloved musical icons (David Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, and Sharon Jones among them) and the disappointing and divisive Presidential election, but in 2017 we had to deal with the ramifications of said election (we’d say that roughly 95% of the musicians we interview likely don’t support many, if any, of President Trump’s policies). Our Favorite Albums Released Between January 1 and July 7, 2017
Jul 13, 2017
By Mark Redfern
In the past we’ve avoided posting midyear best albums lists. It seemed somehow impatient and premature to evaluate the year’s albums halfway through. And how do you decide which period the list covers, which arbitrary release date do you work out is the cut off point, as every midyear list seems to cover a different period? But 2017 is a year that demands a partial evaluation. More

Sam France and Jonathan Rado—the young duo behind Foxygen—have a wealth of ideas running through their heads, and probably two sweet-ass record collections. This was evident in the twists and leaps of their all-over-the-map Take the Kids Off Broadway EP, which not only changed styles and genres across its seven tracks, but regularly did so mid-song. More

At some point in the past four or five years, the line between pop music touched by the ‘60s and retro-sounding indie folk became so blurred that the two are now effectively one and the same. Think of modern indie bands who have made it kind of big and they’re most likely a band that sounds like an amalgamation of yesteryear’s mixtapes; fuck a new idea, let’s just make a great-sounding record.
