"This is The First Time Any of us Have Ever Been Sued"
Jul 19, 2010By Laura Studarus
Last week, model Kirsten Kennis, whose teenage mug graces Vampire Weekend’s sophomore album Contra, sued the band—claming they didn’t have the legal right to use the 1980s Polaroid. The damages? 2 million dollars. That’s a lot of boat shoes! After a weekend of silence the band responded. More

Jun 02, 2010By Laura Studarus

Joining him was Vampire Weekend. We have the fan video of O'Brien playing with the band, plus video of Conan O'Brien's Dance-Off with Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. More
Sometimes it's best to just laugh along with your detractors. Indie-pop foursome Vampire Weekend know this to be true, and the video for "Holiday" is a perfect example. Anyone whose followed the ascendant band know of critics and bloggers calling VW the "Richie" Riches of the indie set. Well, this new vid one-ups the taunts by slapping some aristocratic powdered wigs (17th century-era Versailles) on the group as they cavort around summery beaches/pools with babes, hit up an In-N-Out drive thru, and eat decadent sweets. We have the clip. More
Sad but true, sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Well, sad for us that is. Swamped with back issues—which I’m all sure we can agree is a good thing—Under the Radar is passing them on to you with a sale on selected issues. The question is, can you have too much of a good thing? We're offering two dollars off most available back issues! More

Haiti is still recovering from January's devastating earthquake. Aiding the recovery efforts is a group of musicians and artists who are auctioning off exclusive items to benefit the nation. The project, called Crafts For a Cause, is spearheaded by Binki Shapiro of Little Joy and will go live on March 15th. Among the items up for bidding, an original song by Mark Ronson, a camera painted by Drew Barrymore, and a shirt designed by M. Ward. Other artists involved include: Jenny Lewis, Tegan & Sara, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear,Fleet Foxes, Feist, Conor Obest, Aziz Ansari, Devendra Banhart,Cat Power, Daft Punk, Natalie Portman, The Strokes, and many others. Well, that was another terrible Saturday Night Live episode Saturday night. Sigh... Aside from the bits from criminally underutilized host Zach Galifianakis, and to a lesser degree Vampire Weekend, this was a serious letdown. Even VW didn't bring anything new to their growing late-night performance repertoire. The performed Contra tracks sounded almost indentical to their punky, yet fastiduious original recordings. More

Christmas Single Features Kevin Drew, Tegan and Sara, Kyp Malone, Ezra Koenig, Yo La Tengo, and others
Dec 09, 2009By Laura Studarus
Canadian band Fucked Up is leading the Christmas charge. With the help of a few friends (including comedian David Cross, Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew, Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, Yo La Tengo, Bob Mould of Husker Du, Tegan & Sara, and Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend) they've released an updated version of 1980s classic "Do They Know It's Christmas?" More
The loop-y new music video for Vampire Weekend's single "Cousins" is up and making the rounds. You can watch the behind the scenes clip on MTV. Hammer & Tongs (aka Garth Jennings and producer Nick Goldsmith, the men who lensed videos for Blur, Supergrass, eels, and Pulp) directed the clip. Oh yeah, they also helmed VW's equally punky, "A-Punk." Got to love those face-morphing masks. More
There's more Vampire Weekend news coming down the pipeline today. Contra, the band's sophomore LP, isn't out until January 12th, but we've already peeped its leadoff cut, "Horchata." Now MBV reports and Vampire Weekend's publicist corroborates, that the eclectic indie-poppers have another new song waiting in the wings. More

Under the Radar joined drummer Chris Tomson and lead man Ezra Koenig in a rare patch of shade at Coachella to discuss life on the road, the sanity-maintaining properties of funny movies, and how to best operate Google.
Although autumn had officially hit several days earlier, one would have been hard pressed to find any signs of the new season at Vampire Weekend’s unseasonably hot Hollywood Bowl debut Sunday night. Also making their sweat-drenched bowl debuts were African/Swedish band The Very Best, and Baltimore, Maryland’s Beach House.More

Coachella 2010 Day One Report - Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, Fever Ray, LCD Soundsystem, and more
Apr 17, 2010By Mark Redfern
Coachella 2010 began under the cloud of an erupting volcano. Several of the European artists playing this year had to cancel their Coachella appearances due to the Icelandic volcano eruption grounding all flights from the U.K. and other parts of Europe. So day one of Coachella was greeted with the news that we wouldn't be seeing Frightened Rabbit, Delphic, The Cribs (with Johnny Marr), or Gary Numan after all. And only a few days earlier Mew had already cancelled due to illness. So this year's festival was already starting with some losses, Mew and Delphic probably being the most unfortunate ones. But while there were few artists playing Coachella 2010 who I both hadn't seen before and was dying to see (Pavement being one of them), the lineup was still rigged with enough great artists so that I had little time to eat and take breaks between bands. Here's what I saw during day one. More
Vampire Weekend, LCD Soundsystem kick off Coachella Festival 2010
Apr 17, 2010By Laura Ferreiro
The 2010 Coachella Festival kicked off yesterday (April 16) in a chaotic fashion, with massive crowds making it difficult to get onto and off of the grounds and challenging to catch close-up glimpses of the bands. An Icelandic volcano also threw a wrench into the works, making it impossible for artists including The Cribs and Bad Lieutenant to fly from England to California to perform. That said, stellar sets by Vampire Weekend, Them Crooked Vultures and La Roux, among others, made fighting through the crowds and braving the heat worthwhile. More
