Apr 01, 2010
By Laura Stuarus
Oh, April Fools Day. The one day of year when hipsters and tweens alike can come together to enjoy cheep jokes about Justin Bieber (which the teen idol is in on). Thanks to Funny or Die (today: "Bieber or Die," as Bieber has apparently bought the site and turned into a fan site) for bringing us all together with this clip where Raaaaaaaandy (Aziz Ansari) claims that Bieber's hit "Baby" is really just a rip-off of his potential smash hit, "Baby Baby." Also involved? Pot Smoking, knee shooting, studio trashing. Watch carefully for TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek and Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner who appear as Raaaaaaaandy's backing band. More

If you're making the trek over to this year's Lollapalooza, you won't have to wonder anymore what co-headliner wll fill your ears with wonderful sounds on Saturday night. As we reported yesterday, The Beastie Boys were scheduled to be apart of the Chicago fest's heavy-hitting August 8th lineup, but Adam Yauch's cancerous throat gland tumor forced the group to cancel all their festival engagements and postpone their new LP. Fortunately, the sure-footed Lolla promoters didn't pull hairs over deciding a suitable stand-in: festival-circuit veterans Yeah Yeah Yeahs! More

Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut full-length Fever to Tell sounded like a high school yearbook. It's a loud but uncertain art-punk screed, full of black humor and wicked riffs but with little ambition. Singer Karen O's squeals and moans and beer-slinging are sex-crazed without being especially sexy. It's aggressive and commanding but only hides the band's insecurities about what they really have to say. It's a portrait of young artists caught in the middle of growing up. More

On day three of Coachella My Bloody Valentine threatened to burst a thousand eardrums. As we entered the festival site around 12:30 PM they were handing out complimentary earplugs in anticipation for the aural attack. Other highlights included a blood-splattered Fucked Up, an energetic Friendly Fires, and the incredibly strange Throbbing Gristle. More
